Continuous Logging of Triggered Pulse Measurements

The setup and operation of the BDS covered in the article Logging Triggered Pulse Power Measurements to File in CW Measurement Mode will allow the operator to capture a single dataset after a trigger event is detected. This article elaborates on that previous topic, helping the reader to configure the BDS to respond to multiple power pulse trigger events. 

To now respond to multiple trigger events, the operator must make two changes:

  1. Check the box indicating "Continuous trigger"
  2. Set the "Maximum time to collect" to longer than the anticipated run time after pulsing. Since, in the previous article example, you configured for a collection of datasets to occur over a 30 s interval, you would now apply >= 31 s. 
 
After you arm the BDS to respond to the input power trigger level:

 You will still be presented with the dialog indicating the trigger status before the pulse has been detected:

 

And the dataset measurements will still get updated in the Plot View:

 

But now your trigger status will notify you that the BDS is armed again and awaiting the next trigger event:

 

This cycle will repeat until you halt the operation by either clicking the Stop button.....

or by navigating to Mode->Stop Acquisition:

 

Note that in this configuration, all triggered datasets will be written to the same single log file. 

 

If you want to have each triggered dataset save to individual files, you will need to navigate to File->File Options, then check the "Save each trigger event to a separate file" box. 

 

You will then notice multiple files getting created in the defined folder path, one for each triggered event:
