How to Choose a Load or Termination

Follow

If you are in the market for an RF load but don't know how to proceed, then start with listing out the two most important options: maximum constant wave (CW) power and frequency range

For instance, let's imagine you need a load that can handle 10 kW from 100 kHz through 300 MHz. Knowing your maximum power, you can navigate to our Product Landing Page for "Coaxial Terminations" (fancy phrasing for "Loads") and scroll through to the power level that will meet your needs:

Clicking on the 10 kW option you find a listing of available options and where the frequency range is most often called out:

Beyond this, you will need to decide what will best meet your application needs. If you are strictly working with CW, any of the options are good. However, if you are working with power pulsing applications, the oil-cooled termination often offers the best overall stability.

If the need is to ensure the best heat removal or transfer, then you will want to look into the water-cooled loads.
